faithfully serving a 24 month mission!

So, the title is dedicated to my amazing friend Elder V. ;) Είσαι πολύ αυθάδικος.

WEDNESDAY, October 17th: We went to J. and said goodbye to him. He called me Clements Jr. (This doesn't make sense unless you know him, but it pretty much means I'm his favorite!). We had District Council in the Kato Paphos apartment (insert an Elder Z. face here) and then did Voice of the Lord survey on the boardwalk.

THURSDAY, October 18th: We had service with V. for the last time and had lunch with the Risers. I ate waaaay too much, and we got ice cream afterwards too. We had Weekly Planning and then said goodbye to A. from the shop. We had dinner with N. in the sketchiest place ever...and it was tiny and full of cigarette smoke and beer, haha. But, the food was decent. Basically, it was a day full of food.

FRIDAY, October 19th: We went in the morning and said goodbye to our Chinese member (Auntie E., lol). We then changed clothes and went to see M. (Cypriot Member) and her dog. We gave the dog a bath, lol, and then went home. I dug through the area books while Elder VE. packed. We had studies and lunch, and then he left with Elder S., and I stayed with Elder Z. We went finding on the boardwalk and saw this guy like fall onto the side walk and then just lay there. There was a crowd, and it looked like he was either overdosing or going through a withdrawal. So, it was an interesting start to our few days together.

SATURDAY, October 20th: This was one of the craziest days of my mission. We did service in the morning with V. and then went home for companionship study [Editor’s note: the elders study the scriptures together for companionship study]. We then went to a banquet lunch we were invited to by the charity organization we help at the charity shop. After not being able to find the restaurant, we were then moved around (our seats) four times before ending up being seated in front of the Head of the Anti-Cancer Foundation of Cyprus (Friends for Life) and also the head of the Limassol Branch.

After an incredible lunch, which included a magical arm that magically refilled my glass of water over 15 times, we were asked a lot about what we do and why we are here in Cyprus. At the end of the meal we gave the head of the Foundation a Book of Mormon and promised her blessings if she read it. It was pretty cool.

Then that evening, we did a whiteboard, after the first rain of the season, and met the Prophet of Cyprus. We were talking to this very Greek Orthodox guy for like 20 minutes, and he wasn't very accepting and pretty hesitant to read the Book of Mormon. Then, this random Cypriot guy who was looking at the whiteboard turned to him and started testifying in PURE Cypriot about the truthfulness of the Book. It was going well for ten minutes, and then they started really arguing (by the way, the guy testifying of the Book of Mormon spoke of ten minutes using pure church doctrine, including quoting verses from the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price). After 30 minutes, they were just mad at each other, haha.

I figured out almost immediately that the guy testifying was a former investigator who has read and knows all of our doctrine but said he didn't receive an answer about being baptized, and he now believes he is a prophet. He combines "all" religions: "like MMA, man, you can't just use karate or judo; you must have them together." But I must say, this guy spoke for 30 minutes and only said two things that were not doctrine. He wrecked the other guy.

Elder Z. "wrecked"

SUNDAY, October 21st: For Church, we watched General Conference, Sunday Afternoon Session. We had a new member show up, lol. I needed to be in church almost the entire day preparing for our whitewash [Editor’s note: This is missionary slang for having two new missionaries come to an area; normally, one missionary will be transferred out while the other one stays in the area, so “whitewashing” is when both missionaries are transferred to a new area at the same time, which is not as common.]. Oh, I forgot...on Friday, we received transfer calls while with Cypriot mom. I am going to Nicosia Strovolos with Elder H. We are whitewashing/reopening the area. Limassol is being whitewashed by Elder G. and Elder A. After that, we gave a blessing to a member, in Greek.

Alright, guys, I love you all, and I'm looking forward to a new adventure as I return to Nicosia!

Have a great week!
