Halkida

Monday, July 29, 2019

Hey, guys! This week has flown by. Today, we went on an excursion with a group of missionaries, so I am writing this on my phone! We also will not be back in time for me to send any pictures, sorry!

TUESDAY, July 23rd: Instead of District Council, we went to go do service cleaning up the old Olympic Basketball Stadium. It is being used right now to store clothing and food for the refugees. We got flaked on by D. We met with G. and T. with the sisters, and it was chill.

WEDNESDAY, July 24th: We had a ballin’ district council. We did language study with Elder Z. and Elder H. at McDonald's and saw K. He gave Elder J. a bunch of hair stuff, lol. It was Elder J.'s birthday as well. We had an awesome whiteboard with good conversations.

THURSDAY, July 25th: It was a really long and pretty terrible day, to be honest. We got flaked on a lot, and nothing went according to plan.

FRIDAY, July 26th: We had service in the morning, and the whole day was full of bizarre experiences. It truly was one of those “only on a mission” days. It included finding the best less-active member with an actual real desire to return to activity and a lesson with the sisters at a shack with some guys, one of which is married to a member, apparently, and was wasted completely. We met with a lad whose life is getting screwed up, but he's a legend.

SATURDAY, July 27th: We met with a Christian guy who started teaching us a lesson, lol, with the same teaching methods we use. It was pretty funny. We met another friend with the sisters. We did a whiteboard in Kifissia with Elder Z. and Elder H. and had Ancho's  (Mexican) for dinner. The whiteboard was one of the best I've had in months

SUNDAY, July 28th: It was a normal Sunday with a BBQ at H.'s house afterwards and a rough whiteboard in Syntagma.

MONDAY, July 29th: We took the train up to Halkida. It is an island that is connected to the peninsula by bridges. We spent the afternoon there and saw a castle

Love you guys,

Elder Müller

Kato Patisia Part 2

Monday, July 15, 2019

Hey, guys! It was transfer week and zone conference.

TUESDAY, July 9th: Since we transferred on Monday, we needed to go shopping and to visit K., a returning member who loves me, lol. We had a nice visit with him and went to another returning member to say hello. It was really good that we saw him because he is struggling. We went to a new whiteboard spot, and while we were waiting for the other elders to come, a homeless and drunk Witness decided to come and harass us...The last straw was when he started grabbing me with alcohol-covered fingers. The whiteboard spot didn't work out, so we ended up just going to Syntagma.

WEDNESDAY, July 10th: It was zone conference day. We got the Area Book Planner app, and thanks to the laws of the EU, we need to send a privacy notice to any person that we write down something about—no background information either for people. It felt like freedom was being sucked out of my lungs and poison being siphoned into my veins. I saw Elder J. before his flight home to Denmark and got to say goodbye so that was cool. In the morning, we got to go to with the APs (Assistants to the Mission President), who slept at our place, to Mars Hill to meet the new missionaries.

THURSDAY, July 11th: We had interviews with President Anderson, and I finished up my part of the quarterly report for the branch. We got a message from a 17-year-old kid from Uganda who didn't know anyone, but his sister is a member of the church in Canada. He had been sleeping on park benches for two nights, and so we went with him to try and find a place that helps with housing. No luck, but later that night, we got a message from him saying that some fellow Ugandans found him in the park and offered him a place to stay for two weeks. Miracle! We visited a less-active member, and that went well.

FRIDAY, July 12th: We helped at the soup kitchen and had a lesson with R. about Patriarchal Blessings and temples. We did a whiteboard in Peristeri with the sisters as well.

SATURDAY, July 13th: We met with S. at his work, and they made him start early instead of eating with us, but then, they let him have some break time, but we felt bad, lol. The chicken was great though. We saw S. at night with his little boy S. and then did a whiteboard.

SUNDAY, July 14th: Sister M. (nee K.) showed up at church! It was weird because I was sitting at the sacrament table when she and her husband walked in with some friends. I also was part of a pretty rough musical number and gave a talk about the Iron Rod. We had a whiteboard in the evening.

Yes!! That is Sister Kreiberg who served six months in our ward in Florida!
She is from Denmark. She is now married and expecting a baby!
She and her husband were visiting the Athens area.
So awesome that she got to surprise Elder Muller!!

Elder Muller and the "former" Sister Kreiberg!

So yeah, I'm very glad to be back in Kato Patisia to finish out my time and to be with Elder J. We are going to have a busy transfer.

Love you guys,

Elder Müller

Nine More Weeks?

Monday, July 8, 2019

Hey, guys! I don't have my journal today because I had to pack my bags for the transfer. I will just write the highlights.

We were able to find our friend who just didn't reply for two weeks.

We met with A., and the lesson was not the best, but she did come to our 4th of July barbecue. Speaking of which, it was a big success. and we brought a total of four people plus A.'s son. G. (the guy who loves America) came and was ballin’ at the barbecue with Elder H.

We were able to have a sit-down discussion with S., and she is amazing. She has come to church for three weeks in a row and is doing amazing.

We met some people in miraculous ways, and we got transfer calls. I will be going back to Kato Patisia with Elder J. I'm really excited for the next transfer.

Love you guys,

Elder Müller

[Editor’s Note: Elder Müller had his birthday this past weekend!!!! 🎂 🎆🎇🎉 😊 We are so happy for him, and he was able to celebrate with some other elders and sisters. He did not mention it in his email—he is too modest—but feel free to leave comments wishing him happy birthday!]

I didn't feel like doing a weekly this week. We didn't have a very eventful week except for finally finishing the cleaning of the branch member list. We also met two awesome sisters last Saturday, and one of them came to church yesterday. She felt the Spirit very strongly during the closing hymn, “How Great Thou Art,”* and I hope she will continue to find herself in holy places.

Have a great week, guys!

Elder Müller

*Due to copyright issues, I cannot link the lyrics to this hymn as I usually would. However, watch this beautiful a cappella rendition by BYU Noteworthy to feel the spirit of this awe-inspiring hymn:

Why Don't They Pick Up Their Phone?

Monday, July 1, 2019

TUESDAY, June 25th: We had district council, and Sister M. brought up a great question about how much time we spend with people. It led to a great discussion. Elder Z. helped a French-speaking member with a lesson for Sunday. We did a whiteboard in Peristeri, which went okay.

WEDNESDAY, June 26th: We did door-knocking in the industrial district and got two good contacts in for the three hours, so not bad. We went with S. to get Indian gyros at Mirch. We had a lesson with the girlfriend of a less-active member, and Elder Z. taught in Spanish with the help of another member. I understood 90% of what they were saying though!

THURSDAY, June 27th: We had dinner at a member’s home, and it was sooo good. Everything else fell through that day.

FRIDAY, June 28th: We taught at the Friendship Center and met with S. (member). We went to a psychiatric hospital to give a blessing, but we weren't allowed in. We met with a guy from France with the sisters.

SATURDAY, June 29th: We searched out addresses and met K. at Street Wok for lunch. We also had a whiteboard in Piraeus, which didn't go so well.

SUNDAY, June 30th: S. came to church again! We had an okay whiteboard in Syntagma as well.

Love,

Elder Müller
