Elder Muller, Pday Hike, February 4, 2019 |
Hey,
guys! It has been another week in Greece, and the metro still smells like stale
breath after a weekend at Big Jud's.
TUESDAY, January 29th: We had a good
district council at the Finlayson's home and an amazing lunch afterwards
(thanks, Sister Finlayson!). We had a co-lesson with the Sisters K. and M. with
our friend A. at McDonald's, lol. It went okay but he doesn't really have any
interest in the gospel at the moment. I also got cleaning products from Sister
Finlayson and spent an hour in the evening bleaching, scraping, and scrubbing
the bathtub until it wasn't like the bad side of a French toilet anymore. :)
WEDNESDAY, January 30th: We went in
the morning to meet a guy named A. We had given him a call earlier in the week,
and he wanted us to come over. We didn't know what to expect, but when we got
there, he pulled us into his basement/storage unit and started showing us all
of his old books and weird stuff. Then, he spoke full Greek at 110% speed level
for 40 minutes straight with hardly a breath of air. We left a Temples and Families pamphlet and left, lol. We went to the Friendship Center and taught
languages there. We ate lunch with K. and then had a lesson with E. He accepted
to be baptized!
THURSDAY, January 31st: We helped at
the Salvation Army and sorted clothing for them and helped them move heavy
boxes that they couldn't lift by themselves. We had salad and chicken nuggets
for lunch and then tried to do Weekly Planning but had to stop early to go to
an appointment with a girl from Iran. While we were at the appointment, a
waitress asked us about our Greek, and it turns out that she is Albanian and
speaks English and Greek as well. She saw we were from a church and immediately
asked if she could come sit with us after her work was done. Unfortunately, we
had to leave before that happened, but we got her number and should be meeting
up with her this week with the Sisters.
We had the best meal appointment ever
because it was 100% in Greek. We went to D.’s home, and G. was there. Elders N.
and N. came with us, and we had a great time at their home. D. had heard a lot
about me from some “Amy Schaefer” on Facebook, lol [Editor’s note: Amy Schaefer
is Elder Müller’s mother.] The meal appointment reminded me of back home
with a lot of missionaries over for dinner with young kids, haha.
FRIDAY, February 1st: We went to the
Friendship Center and taught languages again. We saw A. and helped him with his
computer and had a lesson with C. I still do not understand French, lol.
SATURDAY, February 2nd: We went to
play football with some friends, and luckily, we had an odd number of people, which
meant that I could play photographer and not embarrass myself on the pitch. I
got some awesome pictures of Elder C. for C. <3 (that's his heart, not
mine). We did a whiteboard with Elders Z. and B. by a mall, and it went okay—not
the best, not the worst.
SUNDAY, February 3rd: We had church,
and I. came with us! We had a whiteboard in the evening with Sisters K. and M.
and Elders N. and N. We got sooooo many answers; it was crazy.
MONDAY (TODAY), February 4th: We
(the greatest and most amazing district leaders ever ha ha) organized a district
outing to the highest hill/mountain in Athens (still don't know the name, lol)
[Editor’s note: According to several travel sites, Mount Lycabettus is the
highest point in Athens. You are welcome, Elder Müller! Love, your sister
Hillary 😊], and the Αγια Παρασκευή sisters decided to
tag along. :) We had a great time finding out how out of shape we all are. We
got gyros for lunch and ate at Monastaraki for a few minutes before getting
harassed on every hand by gypsies. There has been exactly one metro ride today
that there has not been somebody asking for money on the metro...Anyways, enjoy
the pictures. Have a great week, lads and lasses!
