4 Months Down, 20 To Go!

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to my weekly email! If you haven't been here before, come on down and let me show you how we do things here in the City of Cigarette Butts and Awesome Sea Views.

Well, we had a great time this week cruising around on those, what do you call them? Oh yeah, feet. (bonus points if you get the reference) Hold up. Hillary is going to see I didn't put the period AFTER the parentheses. Oh well. Just remember, your's truly teaches people perfect English. Ya know, cause I understand so much grammar.

On Tuesday, January 30th, we spent time strengthening our little Paphos branch by visiting some members with the Sampsons, our amazing Senior Missionary Couple! It was a lot of fun and just a spectacular day outside. In personal study this day I read Alma 17. It's a dope chapter that helped to answer a question I had.  (You can read Alma Chapter 17 at this link: https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/17?lang=eng)

On Wednesdays "we wear pink", haha! Actually we wear white shirts and trousers (I spent way too much time with Brits). But that gives me an idea. I am wearing a pink flower tie right now, I should start wearing it on Wednesdays. ANYWAYS, we went to the horse farm and it was dope like usual. Question! Where does the word "dope" come from? I bet you 500 euros it is from a Greek word.

We had District Meeting and it was eh aight, but nothing remarkable. Just notes from MLC. Ask Bryan or the missionaries what the heck that is. (MLC is Missionary Leadership Council.) We took the bus home and I had a great conversation with a half Egyptian, half Cypriot guy. He spoke perfect American English and Cypriot, haha! He was super cool and teaches dance in Paphos and Limassol. We had a great conversation about what we believe and labels. He was surprised I was "so down to earth" #chillestmissionary #zizzididgood

PS. I had a dream about ranch dressing. Yes. Yes, I am not ashamed

Οn Thursday we met the only Cypriot man over 6'2', I believe. He talked to us while we were door knocking and invited us in. So he could tell us all about his beliefs...so Jehovah's Witnesses were apparently created by the US government to funnel money to revolutions and political propaganda in other countries. Welcome to Paphos.

On Friday we went to the horses again. I don't know how those workers do it every morning. Then after working with the horses, we went to a waffle place. The Sampsons bought us burgers for lunch there, and while they were upstairs washing up, we ordered dessert waffles. Oh. My. Gosh! They were from heaven.

Saturday was soooo long. It dragged on forever, haha. We did the horses again. I was exhausted from doing it the day before! I don't know how the workers keep it up. Nothing of note really happened that day.

Sunday was fast and testimony meeting. Before church, we had an appointment with R. and two sister missionaries from London. Sadly, it fell through. The microphones on the computers over Skype would not work. The poor sisters got up SUPER early to be able to translate for us. We had lunch at the Sampson's, and it was mind blowing as usual. Honestly, I have way too many journal entries about Sister Sampson's cooking. I started Family History with Elder A.! It was actually pretty good. Not too boring :) Don't worry, Sister Winklespecht! You will make an indexer out of me yet! Our sort of appointment with M. and E. fell through that evening, but overall it was a good day.

Today we are going to get lamb mmmmmm, and we are going to see Paul's Pillar. http://exploringcyprus.blogspot.com/2014/05/saint-pauls-pillar.html

Elder Johansen and I have been deep cleaning the apartment. It hasn't been seriously cleaned in at least four years. It's gross.

So a cool experience from this week:

Sometimes the answers to our prayers aren't what we expect or want them to be. Sometimes Heavenly Father simply answers by saying, "Not right now." I know it can be frustrating to find answers to prayers or to even pray. But I know that with time, God always answers, in His own way.  One of the lines from one of my favorite songs says: "When you have no strength to stand, all you have to do is get down on your knees." I love that. My life changed when I knelt down and said, "I can't do this anymore Dad. Please help me." I share that deeply personal experience with the hope that someday, someone will read it and it will help them when they don't know where to go or what to do anymore. I didn't magically appear back at home in my bed and with the people I love. I still didn't know how on earth I would get up and go to work the next day. But, I knew God was there and He loved me. That was enough.

If you guys have time, look up a talk my Glen Beck called: Glen Beck: An Unlikely Mormon. It is his conversion story. It is a favorite of talk of mine, and of Elder J. It is a little long, but so worth it. (Editor's note: I'm not sure if this is the version of the talk that Elder Muller is referring to, but it is one I could find that wasn't the actual book:  http://www.ldsliving.com/How-Glenn-Beck-Became-a-Mormon/s/5768

I hope everyone is doing well.

Love you all,

An important update regarding the Greece Athens Mission. This information was shared by the current President of the Greece Athens Mission. We will have to stay tuned as more information is forthcoming from the Church Headquarters. The change will become effective July 2018.

This means that Elder Muller's group of missionaries is the last set of missionaries called to serve in the Greece Athens Mission. From now on, missionaries will be called to serve in the Adriatic South Mission, and their mission call will specify which language they will be speaking in. This new mission will include several different languages.

Dear Friends,
Many of you will have heard or read the news that the Greece Athens Mission is among the missions world-wide which will be consolidated into other, larger missions. We first received notice of the change from Elder De Feo of the Europe Area Presidency two weeks ago, and at his request, we have waited for more information before discussing anything. President Heder was told today in a meeting he was attending in Italy that we can now share the change.
We know that the Greece Athens Mission will be merged with the Adriatic South Mission, which previously took in Albania and FYRM / Macedonia. We do not yet know what the expanded mission will be named. We do know that the new mission President will be President and Sister Anderson from the Adriatic South Mission. The process of deciding how to most effectively administer the expanded mission will take weeks, and we will be in communication with the neighboring mission and Europe Area Temporal Affairs people to make those calls over time.

The work of sharing the gospel with these beautiful people in Greece and Cyprus will continue to move forward.
All our love to all of you former missionaries, families and friends of the Greece Athens Mission.
President and Sister Heder
