| Paphos Elders |
So, the title of this email
will make sense as we progress through a very interesting, somewhat apostate,
somewhat amazing, overall good week here in the City of Sea Breeze, Stray Cats,
and Lost Sklavenitis Carts.
WELCOME ONE AND ALL! I
welcome you to your favorite weekly missionary email. I know you receive many,
and don't worry, I won't tell anyone that this is your favorite. It is our
secret. By the way, my goal is to have a bigger blog than Elder Halverson. SO,
DON'T FORGET TO LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!!!
Any who, this week has
been an interesting one.
Wednesday: We did
service at the charity shop close to our apartment. They let us upstairs to the
storage area to clean, and we had a good talk with one of the workers for about
15 minutes. #slowandsteadywinstherace I have a note in my journal from today
that says I failed at my diet today, but I would do better the next day. Yeah,
that's a lie.
Thursday: We did
service at the garden with the Sampsons and harvested potatoes. We ate lunch at
our favorite waffle and burger place. See, told you I wouldn't do better. Once
home, we decided to go out in our service clothes and try to help people. We
were able to help the same lady we did a few weeks ago and helped her with her
vines. She was grateful. We moved on and talked to a guy by another charity
shop, but they didn't have anything, and so we kept going. There is a flower
shop that we pass every time we go to church, so we stopped by there and talked
to the guy. He was awesome and actually let us speak Greek with him. When that
happens, you realize how little you know, lol. We saw miracles during Daily
Planning this night. We had a wide-open schedule for Friday, but the
Lord provides a way if we have faith! All of a sudden, we got a ton of stuff to
do AND a dinner appointment with the Browns—first one of my mission too! (The President Brown is the District President, similar to a Stake President.)
Friday: Oh man, Friday was
amazing. We got a text from our member that lives up this MASSIVE hill, and he
said he needed help. So, we walked from our apartment all the way up in 35
minutes. It normally takes about an hour. We were tired. We were up there for
about an hour and a half before walking back down. On our way down, a guy in a Mercedes-Benz
stopped and told us to get in. One note here, it was a perfect week for weather
here in Paphos, but we got into this guy's car, and it was like a sauna, and he
wasn't even sweating. He said he sees us walking around the city every day and
always says he is going to give us a ride but never does, so he did today! He
owns a hotel and restaurant on the coast/harbor. So, it's a rare thing, a rich
Cypriot. He dropped us off at church. Overall, it was a pretty cool experience.
We had English class with E., and it was the funniest and best one that we have
had so far. She now corrects not only our Greek, but Elder J.'s English too!
HAHAHA! I was dying of laughter. He can't pronounce “Zeezrom” correctly, and
she was roasting him. Remember, this is an 11-year-old girl. He was getting so,
so, so mad, and E. and I were just dying of laughter. She also called me fat,
so Elder J. got his revenge.
Saturday: We got up
and headed down to the other elders’ apartment because we had a group
appointment with a friend of ours. He is Italian and makes the best pizza in
the whole world. We were supposed to have service at his restaurant, but it
didn't work out. Later, we all went to play football. We eventually had 12
different nationalities playing in one game. We played for 3 hours and were
absolutely dead afterwards. But we made lots of friends and have another time
set for next week. We got a lift back to the other elders’ apartment from the
Sampsons and ate some food. We did studies with them for a short time while our
legs recovered, and then Elder J. and I got to take the very long walk, uphill,
to our apartment. So, we walked a loooooot this day.
Sunday: We were dead
from football and were not looking forward to walking up the big hill to the
member's house (we promised to walk down with him to church). Miracles happen,
folks. He had gotten up and decided to leave for church early. We met him right
before the hill starts. Church was good, and I played a lot of piano because we
got to church early. We had lunch (including the potatoes we harvested earlier
in the week) at the Sampson's apartment with a bunch of people from the branch
here (A branch is a small congregation.). It was lovely, and we all took a
walk. You will hopefully see pictures of it. We also had an appointment with M.
and E. It went well, but we went over time again.
Monday (today): We are
going to go to the Sampsons’ to play Risk. That, or if the weather clears up
(it's rainy today), we will go to the Tombs of the Kings and all-you-can-eat
pizza. So, yup! I will try to upload pics from the Sampsons’. Oh, and I did I
say I am getting jacked? Pumping iron like a boss is very rewarding. Gotta stay
in shape out here, man. I can't come home with a bigger muffin top than I left
with.
I hope all is well at
home! Everybody read Jesus the Christ (find
out more about this book here). It is amazing and really explains a lot of
confusing stuff basically and simply.
I almost forgot! On
Saturday, we got transfer calls! I will be in Paphos with Elder R. He is
from Switzerland and is in Nicosia currently. He is training Elder R. right now
and has been out for about 7 months. Elder J. will be going to Athens to serve
with Elder G.!
