About

Update: February 1, 2018

It was just announced that the Greece Athens Mission boundaries will be changing. The official announcement can be viewed here. The Greece Athens Mission will be merged with the Adriatic South Mission. We will update the blog with more information about this once we receive it.

Greece Athens Mission boundaries are outlined in blue (including Cyprus)

Elder Jeremy Müller will be serving the Lord in the Greece Athens Mission from October 2017 - October 2019. Elder Müller is honored to be serving the Lord and looking forward to teaching the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Greece and Cyprus. While in the Preston, England Missionary Training Center, he started learning to speak, read, and write Greek.

Elder Müller is currently serving in Kato Patisia, Athens, Greece! He is excited to be back here again. Kato Patisia was the first area he served in after being transferred to Greece from Cyprus. For more information about Kato Patisia, please see the information below from when he served there previously.

Elder Müller enjoyed serving in Egaleo (also spelled Aigaleo), which is a municipality in the western part of Athens. This region of Athens is named after Mount Aigaleo, which is the mountain where Xerxes had his throne and watched over the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC. Elder Müller loves the people of Athens!

Previously, Elder Müller served in Piraeus, the port of Athens. It is the largest passenger port in Europe, and it dates back to classical Athens (early 5th century BC), when it was designated as Athen's port. Beyond just its port though, Piraeus has been inhabited since the 26th century BC and means "the place over the passage." Elder Müller enjoyed serving in a new area of Athens and testifying the truth of the Lord's gospel.

Piraeus, Greece

Before serving in Piraeus, Elder Müller served in another part of Athens, specifically Kato Patisia. Elder Müller was very excited to be in Greece again when he was transferred here because it was his first time since briefly staying at the mission home at the beginning of his mission. Athens, named after its patron Greek goddess, Athena, is one of the oldest cities in the world. Civilization and democracy can traced back to its influence, and famous philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle, called Athens home. Athena, goddess of wisdom and strategy in battle, is commemorated in the magnificent Parthenon. Elder Müller was enthusiastic to serve the people of Athens and continue to build his Greek skills (he mostly had been learning Cypriot since he was in Cyprus).

Elder Müller's last area in Cyprus was Nicosia Strovolos. Previously, Elder Müller served in Nicosia before serving in Limassol, but that area was temporarily closed until he and his new companion reopened it again. Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus, and Strovolos is the biggest municipality within it. "Strovolos" means in ancient Greek "twister" or "whirlwind," and Strovolos was a royal field during the Frankish rule of the Middle Ages. Elder Müller is excited to be back in Nicosia, and he looked forward to his new adventures sharing the gospel with the people there.

Elder Müller served in Limassol as a district leader. Like Nicosia, it is one of the bigger cities in Cyprus (second in size only to Nicosia). It is a city known for its history in relation to the Third Crusade. King Richard the Lionheart of England celebrated his marriage to Berengaria of Navarre there in 1191. Limassol is also where Berengaria was crowned Queen of England. Now, the city is ranked as one of the top travel destinations in the world. For more information about Limassol, see here. Elder Müller loves Limassol and its people, and he has had many opportunities to serve and teach there.

Before serving in Limassol, Elder Müller was serving as a district leader in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. He was excited to be serving in a larger city and to have the opportunity to preach the gospel to the people of Nicosia. He enjoyed the multi-cultural atmosphere and worked hard at improving his Greek. See here to learn more about the beautiful city of Nicosia.

Elder Müller started his missionary service in Cyprus in the city of Paphos (learn more about Paphos here). He loved it there, and he enjoyed preaching the gospel and learning about new cultures. Known as the birthplace of the mythical Greek goddess Aphrodite, the city is full of history and beauty. Elder Müller sent us many pictures in his letters to show the many historical sites he was able to visit during his preparation days. He loves the people and has had the opportunity to engage in the community by serving those around him. In 2018, Elder Müller also loved having the privilege to participate in the city's annual Easter Passion Play in the role of a Jewish guard.
